World Series of Poker Winner

There are few games as popular as poker especially the Texas Hold’em variety. This game is played by millions around the world for both fun with friends in order to socialise and also by people who play for a living. Many of these people play online for real money at sites like pokerstars.com. Here there are thousands of tournaments played all day long.

Poker is more than just a game of luck like you might think – it is actually more about prediction what both the cards and the other players will do in order to make the best decisions possible and come out on top. With all this it is a very exciting game to watch and so is often televised and when people win large tournaments they often gain fame from it.

One player that did come out on top this year was Greg Merson; he was the winner of this year’s World Series of Poker main event winning himself over eight and a half million dollars. Because Greg usually plays online in cash games and tournaments this was his first live tournament win. Greg left university in order to pursue his poker aspirations however after not doing as well as he had hoped he went back to community college while still playing poker.

He started to win more and more online until he was considered a force to be reckoned with. Before his win at the WSOP Greg came out and admitted that he had been addicted to cocaine but had been able to get clean from the drug and was fully committed to his poker. Because of his success at the WSOP main even as well as his fantastic performance online he was given the WOSP Player of the Year award for 2012.
